On Thursday, March 27, a small group of about 15 OK City Chorus members were honored to sing the National Anthem at the Dale Graham Veterans Foundation. A group of veterans and their families gathered for the Vietnam Era Veteran Event in the parking lot outside the building in Norman to share in honoring those who served in Vietnam. As our ladies sang the National Anthem, Del City High School’s Navy JROTC Color Guard team entered the event venue. It was a very moving ceremony as the chorus members were surrounded by the brave men and women who served so many years ago. James R. Little, Director of Retirees and Membership Assistance for the foundation, served as MC and introduced several veterans who shared a few words about their journey in the military.
Director Little reported - “We were able to serve and assist 113 Veterans through the VA claims process on Thursday, with 23 of them being new clients who showed up because of social media friends and family, or other VSOs. What a great day, and I know that the support they received will improve their quality of life access to healthcare, financial wellbeing and other benefits and resources. Additionally, we had 15 Veterans share the stories of their military careers that will be sent to the Library of Congress for all to share.”
What a high honor it was to be asked to participate in this day of remembrance. Since this was an early rise and shine 8:30 a.m. performance, most of our participating chorus members had not had breakfast. So, in true OK City Chorus fashion, after the ceremony members gathered at Jimmy’s Egg for a bite and good fellowship.
